One of our go-to winter soups is this one from Taste of Home. This hearty Sausage Bean Soup is packed with flavor and oh-so-simple. Whip this up in a pinch, or let it simmer away on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Serving size

 ¾ lb Italian Sausage
 ½ cup Chopped Onion (Yellow or White)
 ½ tsp Chopped Garlic
 16 oz Butter Beans (1 can) drained and rinsed
 15 oz Black Beans (1 can) drained and rinsed
 14 ½ oz Diced Tomatoes (1 can) undrained
 14 ½ oz Beef Broth (1 can) reduced sodium
 1 tsp Dried Basil (or 1 Tbsp Fresh)
 2 tbsp Parmesan Cheese (shredded or grated)

Gather ingredients

In a small saucepan or stock pot, add onion, garlic, and sausage. Cook on medium to medium high for 5 minutes, or until sausage is browned.

Add tomatoes, broth, drained and rinsed beans, and basil. Bring to a boil.

Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 30 minutes or more.

Serve, garnished with cheese with some of our homemade no knead bread on the side.
